Text in Media
Media text involves writing and editing in many multimodal mediums of text.
For the purpose of 2025, this page only features the ePortfolio assignment in
Media: Innovation, Theory, and Practice: Playbill Remix.
In this project, I present my remixes; I've illustrated my experience in theatre and have rewritten one of my favorite songs to reflect the coming-to-age theme of being left behind. Then, I acknowledge some of my favorite characters in their character bios while reflecting on notable experiences as whole in my acknowledgements further down. All in all, this is a remix of how these memories have shaped my appreciation for life.
The Show Must Go On
Remix: Tale Retold
Character Bios
Angelica: Activist Angelica is exploring the musical world and is excited to make her debut in “The Show Must Go On”. She often hosts socialite gatherings at home to discuss politics. She wants to thank her sister, Eliza. For the revolution!
Anya: An up-and-coming method actress in Paris, Anya loved her role in “The Show Must Go On”. She likes returning to St. Petersburg on holidays. She wants to thank her husband, Dimitri, for always supporting her and discovering her talent for acting.
Jo March: Famed for her writings and appearing in multiple collections of “Little Women”, she has greatly enjoyed her role in “The Show Must Go On”. You can find her published works under the pen name Louisa May Alcott. Thanks and love to her dear sisters, especially Meg, who inspired her to get on stage! She wants to dedicate this role to Beth.
The Witch: The Witch, also known as The Enchantress and Bruixa, enjoyed being the voice of reason in “The Show Must Go On”. She wants to tell the children of the audience to listen.
Odysseus: As an actor known for being “blessed” by the spotlight, he is excited for his role in “The Show Must Go On”, remarking that it’s a big step up from his previous roles as a beggar and Nobody. For fun, he enjoys archery and puzzles. He wants to thank the lights of his life, Penelope and Telemachus.
The Fates: The Fates - Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos - are a legendary troupe in their musicianship: violin, tambourine, and accordion respectively. They typically play their roles in the shadows, but give a haunting performance on stage in “The Show Must Go On”.
Company: This ensemble recently worked on Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and are happy to fill the company in “The Show Must Go On”.
Remix: Back in the Day
Acknowledgements
Hunchback of Notre Dame, Little Women, Mary Poppins
The former was the first musical I watched at my high school theatre. I had images of awkward teen ensembles and tinny voices drowned by a music recording in my mind, but I was urged on by my theatre friend. She told me to trust her, and I was glad I did. These were students who will become nominated for national awards based on this performance. These were students who would stand on global stages if only someone took a chance on them. There was a live orchestra that accompanied their own choices and interpretations. The Hunchback of Notre Dame was beautiful. Mary Poppins even more so, because I got to see my theatre friend fly quite literally, as she got the lead role of Mary Poppins.

Once Upon a Mattress, Drowsy Chaperone, Cinderella
After being enthralled in the performances I watched, I was curious about the behind the scenes process of putting on such an event. I was lucky enough to be overheard by the music director of the next musical. Next thing I know, I was offered a role in the orchestra pit for Once Upon a Mattress (and the following year, Drowsy Chaperone) as a keyboardist. It was an incredible experience to see the inner workings of a performance and was honored to be a part of it. Once I plucked up the courage, I auditioned for an on-stage role in Cinderella. I got the part!

Hamilton, Anastasia, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, Epic
Throughout my life, I’ve watched a couple musicals through online means (usually by sailing the seas). These musicals’ music has stuck with me, finding a place in my playlist and my instinctual humming. I’ve also been able to share my love for these shows with friends, often through karaoke moments by the piano or in front of the television. For the latter, I was able to enjoy the show live through Florida State University’s talented College of Fine Arts with some friends.

Honorable Mention: Starkid Productions
The Starkids began as a college group of friends and now have risen to infamy on Youtube through their multiple free musical productions. Their unpretentious and humorous productions reflect their origins. I’m fond of their unfiltered wackiness and their story to success is quite an inspiring one.
Favorite: Hadestown
I got to see this live on Broadway in New York with the original cast. It felt like a once in a lifetime moment. When the lamps started swinging and the set transformed, splitting apart, the atmosphere was alive.

Features "Wait for Me (reprise)"
and the Fates
"'Cause here’s the thing
To know how it ends
And still begin to sing it again
As if it might turn out this time
I learned that from a friend of mine"
- Hermes
"Some birds sing when the sun shines bright
Our praise is not for them
But the ones who sing in the dead of night
We raise our cups to them"
- Persephone
Remix: Rewriting Rhymes
Lyrics of "Wait for Me (reprise)", Hadestown
[WITCH, spoken]
All the people that you see
They’re chasing, making memories
They cry and laugh and dance and sing
But, sister, looks like you’re slipping
Who cares about the ones below
Above, besides, the fatal blow
The many fears will drive you mad
And a mind to its undoing
[ANYA & ODYSSEUS]
Wait for me, I'm comin'
Wait, I'm comin' with you
Wait for me, I'm comin' too
I'm comin' too
[COMPANY]
Go the way so you can see
Go the way, your world could be
If he can do it, so can she
If we can do it, so can thee
Go the way
Go the way, your world could be
Go the way so you believe
Life will follow where you lead
Life will follow if you
Go the way
[ANGELICA, spoken]
Think you’ll make it?
[JO, spoken]
You’ll never know
[COMPANY]
Go the way
[ANGELICA, spoken]
Part of the fun is on the road
[COMPANY]
Go the way
[JO, spoken]
You should at least try
[ANGELICA, spoken]
Sort out the truth from the lies
[COMPANY]
Go the way
[ANGELICA, spoken]
Are you gonna try again?
[COMPANY]
Go the way
[JO, spoken]
It's time to “be”
You know, it’s fine to fall
[ANGELICA, spoken]
We’ll wait for you
[JO, spoken]
We will.
[COMPANY]
Wait for me, I'm comin'
Wait, I'm comin' with you
Wait for me, I'm comin' too
I'm comin' too
[FATES]
Who are you?
Who do you think you are?
Who are you?
Who are you to reach out?
Who are you to demand?
Who are you to think that you can catch up when you’ve dragged your feet down in the sand?
[WITCH, spoken]
You’re behind on the path you walk
And you don’t have the grit nor the knack
And I won’t believe your efforts as
You've quit a hundred times before
I’ll tell you how this story ends
Don’t think you’ll make it with pretend
A plan inside that reeling mind
Likewise, it won’t do you in
[COMPANY]
Wait for me (I'm comin'), I'm comin' (I'm comin')
Wait, I'm comin' with you (I'm comin')
Wait for me (Wait, I'm comin'), I'm comin' too (Wait)
Wait for me (I'm comin'), I'm comin' (I'm comin')
Wait, I'm comin' with you (I'm comin')
Wait, I'm comin'
Go the way

[ANGELICA, ANYA, ODYSSEUS & JO, COMPANY ]
I'm coming, wait for me
(Go the way)
I hear the screams repeating
(Go the way)
The falling of our feet and
It sounds like drumming (Go the way)
And we are not alone (Go, go the way)
I hear the cries and crones (Go, go the way)
Echoing our song (Echoing our song)
I'm coming (Coming, coming)

...to reflect my own journey to the past
Life really becomes a blur in theatre. Escapism, eh?
I think we all have a little bit of the Fates in our head.
I play these albums
on repeat...
